Cabin Creek Cabin is a rustic, single-room structure that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It offers a few basic amenities, so guests will need to bring most of their own supplies and gear to ensure an enjoyable experience. Summer access is only by horse, foot, or motorcycle which are allowed July 16th - Oct. 14th annually for up to six miles on Trail 151. All-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders must park at the junction with Trail 205, which is about one mile from the cabin, and hike the rest of the way. Motorcyclists can travel directly to the cabin in the allowed season. Winter access is by snowmobile for 11 miles on the Big Sky Snowmobile Trail. Access by skis or snowshoes is difficult and not recommended. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety. |

Summer access from West Yellowstone: Travel north on U.S. Highway 191 for approximately 10 miles. Turn left on the Tepee Creek Road/Forest Service Road 986 and continue approximately 6.5 miles to Trail 151. From the trailhead, hike or horseback or motorbike, about six miles to the cabin. (ATVs are only allowed on Trail 151 and must be parked at the trail's junction with Trail 205. Visitors must then hike one mile to the cabin). Winter access from West Yellowstone: The cabin is adjacent to the Big Sky Snowmobile Trail. Either start north from West Yellowstone by snowmobile, or drive from West Yellowstone approximately 9.5 miles north on U.S. Highway 191. Parking is available at the Fir Ridge Cemetery pullout. The Big Sky Snowmobile Trail starts on the north side of U.S. Highway 191 and runs approximately 11 miles to the cabin. |

The cabin can accommodate up to four people and has one bunk bed platform and three cots. A wood stove is available to heat the cabin but firewood is not provided. Do not cut green trees for firewood. Basic cookware, dishes, an axe, shovel, broom, mop and table with chairs are provided. An outhouse with vault toilet is located outside and adjacent to the cabin. A hitching rail for stock is available. A meat pole for game meat has been installed about 150 yards behind the cabin. Drinking water, electricity and firewood are not provided. Guests need to bring their own water supply as well as firewood, since wood is scarce around the cabin. Garbage bags are also necessary for guests to pack out all trash. Lanterns or flashlights are not provided. Items like bedding, dish soap, matches, first aid supplies and extra toilet paper are not available. Guests are expected to clean the cabin prior to leaving. |

The cabin remains locked; guests must call the Hebgen Lake Ranger District office at (406) 823-6961, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m on the last business day before a scheduled reservation Water is not available in the cabin; water obtained from nearby natural water sources should be treated prior to use Grizzly bears frequent the area; store all coolers, food, beverages, stock feed and garbage inside the cabin. Wildlife species in this area include grizzly bear, elk, gray wolf, bighorn sheep, deer and moose. |

Hikers and equestrians have trailhead access to the Monument Mountain Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, which climbs 10,995-foot Monument Peak. The Big Sky Snowmobile Trail used to access the cabin in winter provides challenging back country snowmobiling. The area offers excellent big game hunting opportunities in the fall. |
